In addition to being a committed university art educator, (dlatta@oru.edu) for the last 30 years, Latta has considered himself to be an illustrator. Over the years he has worked with a variety of media including pen & ink, clay pencil, glue, acrylic paint, oil paint and wax-based pigment on various papers (arches, egg shell, water color, canson) and several kinds and weights of canvas (cotton, linen) and boards (masonite, lauan, plywood, bristol, illustration board.) Some of his work has been in large mural formats (for TV and theme park set designs.) For the last fifteen years he has evolved into using primarily oil on canvas and wax-based pigment (prismacolor) on cold press bristol board. He considers himself to be a portrait artist and an illustrator. One special market niche he most enyoys working with is Bible illustrations. wax based pigment pencil work is the medium that Doug gets the most excited about.
