Portraits are Doug's favorite artistic expression. Thirty four years ago, after having graduated 5 years earlier from undergraduate university, and having not worked in oil on canvas portraits for those same 5 years, Doug secured a commission to do two dozen traditional oil portraits for special a display honoring some men and women for work they had done in Christian evangelism (see Doug's oil portraits in this website.) He became excited all over again at the smell of the paints and at the disciplines that he had left behind for all of those years. The portrait arts are extremely challenging to any artist and Doug is no different. This discipline, without a doubt, has become his most favorite artistic expression. He now works mostly in wax based pigments when he does his portraits. But the oils still hold a special place in his heart. In this website, Doug's portrait category has been organized into 5 parts: To view more examples of each of the 5 divisions, just click the names of the above list or on the name on top of each portrait image sample in his portfolio portrait category shown in this website. For the last 15 years Doug has worked primarily with prismacolor wax pigment on bristol board and canson paper.
